YMCA Tayside is proud to announce that they are now recognised as a Living Wage accredited employer and as a result is now committed to paying all employees the Living Wage. This means that all employees over the age of eighteen will receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.50. YMCA Tayside is hopeful about what this change could mean to employees and the benefits it will bring.

The Living Wage is given on a voluntary basis decided by employers and is tailored to meet the costs of living. This rate of pay is determined each year based on living standards and costs in the UK by the Resolution Foundation.

This is compared to the National Living wage which has a minimum rate determined by the government. As of April 2020, this rate currently sits at £8.91 for individuals aged 23 and over. Unlike the Living Wage, this rate is not calculated based on living costs but is instead based on the median amount of income earned by individuals across the UK.

As YMCA Tayside begins to implement this new pay grade and become one of the 7,000 Living Wage Accredited employers in the UK, they also excitedly welcome five new members of staff to their team.

Lindsay joined our team in May 2021 as a Youth Work Assistant. She graduated in 2020 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology. She was diagnosed with Dyspraxia when she was six years old, and has overcome many challenges with determination and perseverance. Lindsay is passionate about supporting people and helping them reach their potential.

Rebecca has been a sessional worker with the YMCA since April 2020 and has been helping with our Aberuthven group. Rebecca is currently studying psychology at the University of Stirling with the long term goal of becoming a child psychologist.

Liam started his role of trainee youth worker with YMCA Tayside and is excited about what this job means for him and his interests. His main passions in life include ensuring he maintains a fit and healthy lifestyle and working alongside young people. He hopes to combine these two passions and inspire young people to stay healthy and active.

Vicky joined the YMCA in May 2021 having completed a modern apprenticeship in Outdoor Education. She has also been involved with voluntary sports coaching for a number of years in various sports such as rugby, football, cricket and athletics. Her passion has always been to work with young people and help them to develop themselves.

Chloe is YMCA Tayside’s new media assistant and has a passion for media, writing and content gathering. She studied Media and Communication at college in Glasgow City and later went on to study Journalism at University, completing her course and achieving her degree in 2020.

We look forward to working with our new members of staff and making them feel welcome, especially as we celebrate becoming a living wage employer.
